I have lodged my final proposal in Parliament to for a Member’s Bill to establish an independent commissioner to promote and safeguard the rights and interests of disabled people. This proposal comes as a result of a public consultation that ran over the summer and showed that 90% of respondents supported my recommendations. You can find a summary of these responses below.
I am now securing support from my MSP colleagues to take this bill forward. I have 4 weeks to get at least 18 MSPs from 2 parties to indicate their support. After that, I plan to move forward with the drafting of a bill early next year.
Thank you to everyone who has been so supportive and worked so hard on the process so far.
